Contrary to stereotypes of those who participate in social media, most do not sit in their mother’s basement in pajamas and communicate through a keyboard all day…though, let’s be honest, it does sound almost delightful. Just kidding. Maybe.
As distributors…check that…as human beings…you have a chance to build new relationships and enhance current ones through social media.
A study by MicroDialogue, found that 27.6 percent of social media users in the US say social networking has benefited their offline relationships and almost half (48.7 percent) reported they felt communication via the internet was more convenient than face-to-face discussions. Social media has also proven key for some web surfers in expanding their social lives, with 49 percent claiming to have forged new relationships from online interactions and 31.5 percent saying social media pushed them to try things they had wanted to do.
Let me preface the next bit with the words of Dallin and our VP of Marketing Wayne Moorehead, which are, social media does not, nor will it ever replace good marketing, a good business building system or those fruitful (LOL – see what I did there?) tasting parties.
Social media is meant to supplement those best practices and is a new medium to connect and build relationships, which we all know is the cornerstone of network marketing.
Remember Devin’s last blog post where he pretty much says that social media is relationship marketing and relationship marketing is just that…building relationships. And… shouting to the world on Facebook or Twitter “Try MonaVie now…it really works,” does not a relationship make. I know. I’m as shocked as you are. No really, you know this stuff. You know the people who spam you with the same type of sales pitches and why it isn’t working for them.
The reason social media has become a popular way to communicate is because we are all looking for transparency and openness. We don’t want to be sold. We want information quickly and we don’t want anything to feel staged or contrived. It’s about being real. Am I rambling? I’m rambling. Moving on…
Okay, so in keeping with Dallin’s theme for 2010, A Year of Miracles, our first initiative in making miracles – an Attitude of Gratitude Challenge!
Think of each individual you might have on your social networking sites or even acquaintances offline. The challenge is to thank or acknowledge 5-10 individuals every day for the next month. So simple!
You’re probably already doing this, so just do it with purpose. It can be as simple as sending someone a direct message, writing on their FB wall, a tweet or email to ask them how they’re doing, going to lunch. It can be someone from your upline, downline, etc. Just remember…don’t sell.
I’m willing to bet the results will astonish you.
Who’s going to take the challenge? Throughout the month feel free to post and let me know how the challenge is going!
Share it!

I love this idea! I did a similar personal challeng in November, posting to FB every day something for which I am thankful. Amazing what it did for my attitude, and how many friends I really reconnected with because they saw what I was being thankful for. Even on the hardest of days, I stopped and thought about something to be thankful for, and the problems of the day seemed so much less significant.
As a new MonaVie Distributor, it’s hard not to want to always be “selling” – I truly want all my friends to experience the benefits of MV and I do want to build a successful business. But taking some time to just connect with and acknowledge my friends reminds me that no matter what happens, having a life full of wonderful friends is priceless.
Thank you for this challenge. I’m in!

Now this is a great idea. I undertook the social meida sites because I figured it was a great get to the fast idea. Sadly, I am more inclined to believe Dallin now. However, there is something that I have learned, how to better relate to people. Who thinks to always wish happy Bday to there friends? Something so small, yet it means alot to the reciever. It has helped me to define my interests and to get to know people with similar interests. For a time, I even tried to “pitch” Monavie, and quickly found out the failing there. But I did learn how to relate to people better and “get to know” them. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am not a social person by nature, bad for this business right, but I have been able to explore the relationship building techniques. Funniest thing, I have more “friendships” than ever before. Success is a process, one you have to work at. I think the most important thing I have learned is how to listen to people and hear them. Cool challenge.

@Aaron Lantis – amazing points and you are a true case study in the positive side of properly used social media.

excellent idea! I’m in…I think I may be doing this already, but not with purpose. I love the use of the word “supplement”…the other proven business practices must continue but the SM supplement provides an aid to them, NOT a replacement. Much like vitamins or say . . . a beverage made of 19 fruits . . . we still eat daily, but by adding to our diet those 19 fruits in a bottle, it does our bodies wonders.
SM can do the same for our businesses if used correctly.
Thanks for this challenge!!

WOW, what a great challenge. I already do a challenge that I started this year, which I call “Today, I am ….” At the end of the day, I say out loud, “I am blessed because…” or “I am thankful for…”. And I found that even when the day was just awful by saying a few positive things my whole attitude change for the better. Some days I have a lot to be blessed or thankful for AND other days I only have one, but no matter what I love how I now feel at the end of each day. Soooooo, I am excited to add MonaVie’s challenge to my daily routine.

Great idea! I am definitely in. Just marked it in my dairy to start on the first of Feb. I already keep a gratitude journal, every day I write down 5 things I am grateful for. In one month you can not be grateful for the same things twice. I love it. I’ve always loved making vision boards, they work for me and keep me inspired and motivated (2 different things as you would know). Now I’m in the midst of making a gratitude board. Just another idea for all of you out there.
